Summer time!!!!

Aistear

We are making the most of the fine summer weather in Room 1. This week we brought Aistear outdoors-we set up a campsite. The children brainstormed together and came up with great ideas for our campsite-we needed a tent, some wood, a barbeque, some camp chairs and a fire to keep us warm. Other stations included a PE station, chalk drawings, water play and junk art. Have a look at us in action.....

Active School's Week

We were super fit during active school's week-each day we spent one hour getting active-different stations were set up and it was so much fun. It's so important to keep active, this helps us stay focused in the classroom-plenty of movement breaks to keep us fit and healthy.

People who help us!

In the month of May, we are learning all about our environment and people in our environment that help us such as the postman, doctor, nurse, gardaí, firefighters and many more. We had a special visitor who came in to see us today-he's a firefighter. We were very lucky in Room 1 to have Lara's dad come in to visit us. He works as a firefighter and a paramedic.. He wore his uniform and told us all about the different jobs he has to do each day-he even brought in the fire  engine. There was great excitement in Scoil Mhuire today.  We asked him lots of questions and we now know how important it is to stay away from things like matches, candles and lighters. He told us the very important number that we need to ring if we are in danger-999! It's also very important that we know our address in case we ever need help from the fire or ambulance services.

Have a look at the eventful day we had in Junior Infants......we were very lucky to wear the hard hat and we each got a turn to spray the power hose.

We sang a song called 'I am a Firefighter'. We have been practicing really hard.

Chicks paid us a visit!!!

There were special visitors in the school this month. Ms. Hoban and her Senior Infants had four chick sto look after. They arrived as eggs in an incubator and the boys and girls were very lucky to see them hatch. We were allowed to visit and see the chicks-we visited twice. The first time we visited, two chicks had hatched and one egg had cracked. Both chicks were dark grey in colour and still in the incubator-they must be 24 hours in the incubator before being transferred into their pen or special box where they are fed and watered.  We revisited the chicks a week later and were greeted by 4 of them-this time 2 were grey in colour and one was orange and yellow in tone. They had all been transferred into their pen at this stage. Teacher was very brave and took two chicks out for us to play with on the floor-it was very important that we sat in a circle and kept the chicks within the circle-one or two managed to sneak out!!!!

Spring has sprung!

In April, we learned all about changes that occur in the Spring time....baby animals are born, buds grow on the trees, days are getting longer, animals are coming out of hibernation and flowers are blossoming. We went on a Spring walk to observe all these wonderful changes. Have a look at our little adventure....

We drew pictures from observation! Have a look.....

Happy Easter

Happy Easter!!!

Wishing you all a very happy Easter and we hope you enjoy the break-lots of love from Room 1 :)

Easter Bunny

We arrived in school on Friday (the day of the Easter hols) to a very special surprise-a letter from the 'Easter bunny'. We were left instructions that we must follow. We followed the arrows that led us on an Easter egg hunt-we hopped all the way along with excitement. The gate to 'the secret garden' was open which gave us a big hint about where the chocolate must have been hiding. Earlier in the week, we had made bunny baskets which came in useful to carry our treats in :) We found a pot of gold in the garden with cool chocolate coins-we can't wait to gobble up all of the chocolate. The Easter bunny had been watching us and knew how well behaved and hard working we were so well done to all the boys and girls-treats well deserved!

Perfect Attendance-100 days of school!

Perfect Attendance!!!

We celebrated the 100th day of school and we rewarded all pupils with certificates who have been un attendance every day. Well done to all the boys and girls in Room 1 who received a certificate.

An Damhsa Mór

A Ceilí was organised in the school as part of 'Seachtaine na Gaeilge'. We were very busy dancing during the weeks leading up to the event. Rocaí Rua was very proud of us as we learned the steps 'as Gaeilge':

Isteach dó, trí, isteach dó trí. Amach dó, trí, amach dó, trí. A haon,                                                        dó, trí, ceathrar, cúig, sé, seacht. A haon, dó, trí, a haon, dó, trí. Ar ais                               dó, trí, ceathrar, cúig, sé, seacht. A haon, dó, trí, a haon, dó, trí.

Have a look at us dancing to our hearts content.

Seachtaine na Gaeilge

During Seachtaine na Gaeilge, we performed in a 'ceolchoirm' in the school hall. We sang a song called 'Tá Mé i mo Shuí ar an gCathaoir'' and we had special actions for each line. We also performed a rhyme called 'Dhá Éinín Deasa'. We love this rhyme and even recite it in the yard at play time :)The concert was lots of fun and we listened to all the other classes perform to songs and rhymes. We all sang together at the end to the Irish rugby anthem 'Glaoch na hEireann'.

Room 1 has got talent......

We designed headbands for St. Patrick's Day.....

Happy Mother's Day

We would like to wish all the mammies in 'Room 1' a very Happy Mother's Day. We visited 'Newlands Garden Centre' to make flower baskets for Mother's Day. First we were handed a basket each filled with soil. We were instructed to make two holes in the soil to fill with flowers. It is very important to look after our flowers by giving them plenty of water and sun. Mammies were very happy with their gift. We also made special cards for mammies and we are getting very good at writing our own name.
